Faith, Legacy, and Spotlight: Sara’s Oil Shines at Atlanta Screening
Atlanta’s Atlantic Station was alive with purpose and celebration this weekend as audiences gathered at Regal Cinemas for a special red-carpet screening of Sara’s Oil, a film shedding light on the extraordinary true story of Sarah Rector—the youngest Black female millionaire in American history. The film revisits a piece of history long overshadowed, honoring a young girl whose faith, courage, and unshakable conviction shaped a legacy of generational wealth and empowerment.

Before the screening, attendees, influencers, and community members walked the red carpet and shared in anticipation for a story rooted in triumph and spiritual grounding. Among those present was actor Kendrick Green, who portrays Joe Rector, Sarah’s father. Green described the film as not only historically valuable, but spiritually resonant.

“This is real American history,” Green shared. “Sarah ended up inheriting land, and it turns out there was oil underneath that God told her about. Through adversity and through faith, she witnessed it unfold and created generational wealth for her family.”

For Green, the film’s message centers deeply on faith in action. “Not only understanding what faith is, but walking it out—even when it’s difficult, even when your life might be on the line, when forces seem to be coming against you. We watch a little girl do this and reap the reward.”
Green believes the film’s communal experience matters just as much as its message. “Today, we don’t get many stories like this on the big screen. It’s important to see this together—to continue the conversation after. This is lost history. Lives will be changed because of this knowledge.”
Following the screening, the audience was invited into a thoughtful and emotional Q&A moderated by entrepreneur, entertainer, and cultural voice B. Simone, who expressed her admiration for the film and particularly for the young actress portraying Sarah.

“I’ve seen the movie already and I wanted to see it again,” she said with a smile. “Little Sarah was phenomenal. She did so well. I wish I could have met her.”
For B. Simone, the film’s lesson was unmistakable: faith does not recognize age.
“It doesn’t matter how old you are. If God gave you a vision—stand on it,” she emphasized. She reflected on how Sarah, even at 12 years old, stood firm against racism, societal pressure, and the disbelief of others. “She stood on what she knew in her spirit. When you feel that deeply, it doesn’t matter what anybody says.”

She closed the evening with a word of encouragement that resonated across the theater:
“Every ‘no’ is not rejection—it’s protection. Ask God to open your spiritual eyes and ears so you stay aligned with where you’re meant to be. Keep moving forward in faith.”

As the lights came up and guests drifted out into the night, conversations continued—reflecting on courage, legacy, and belief strong enough to alter destiny. Sara’s Oil is not only a film, but a reminder: history holds heroes we’re still just beginning to remember.
