n this exclusive interview, Ciara Robinson, founder of Divine Kurves, opens up about her journey creating stylish, confidence-boosting fashion for plus-size women. From overcoming early setbacks to building a brand that resonates with women everywhere, Ciara shares her vision, challenges, and the inspiration behind her growing business.

What inspired you to start your business, and what was the turning point that made you take the leap?
Divine Kurves began when I noticed a lack of stylish options for plus-size women in stores. Everything felt the same — florals, blacks, or long dresses. The turning point came when I had the idea to create a brand offering versatile, fashionable clothing for curvy women for any occasion. Sitting at my desk at work, I realized that Divine Kurves could be more than a vision — it could be a reality.

What problem does your business solve, and what impact do you hope to make?
Divine Kurves provides plus-size women with fashion options that boost confidence and celebrate their bodies. I want women wearing Divine Kurves to feel proud, stylish, and empowered. Our mission is to show that while curves are part of who we are, they don’t define us — and we can flaunt them with pride.

What’s the biggest challenge you faced as a business owner, and what lesson did it teach you?
Initially, I struggled with marketing and promoting my business consistently. I thought the brand would take off on its own, but that wasn’t the case. Closing the business initially felt like failure, but it taught me that closure doesn’t mean defeat. I learned the importance of understanding my target audience, seeking support, and approaching challenges with persistence and strategy.

Was there a breakthrough moment when you realized your business was truly making an impact?
I realized the impact of Divine Kurves through encouragement from loved ones and even a dream that reminded me God had a bigger plan. People around me were inspired by my vision, even when I doubted myself. That’s when I knew my business had a purpose beyond me — it was meant to empower others.

What does a typical day look like for you, and how do you balance strategy with execution?
My days involve scouting trends, researching vendors, photographing and styling pieces, and planning strategy with my sister and cousin. I also study how other businesses operate and adapt those lessons to fit my audience, ensuring Divine Kurves remains fresh and relevant.

What’s the most memorable feedback you’ve received from a customer?
One customer fell in love with a shirt dress because of its color and unique style. When she got to the last button, she exclaimed she didn’t need to try it on — she wanted it immediately. Moments like this remind me that Divine Kurves is about more than clothing; it’s about empowering women to feel confident and beautiful.

How do you stay ahead of trends and keep your business relevant?
I stay ahead by monitoring social media, vendor sites, and what plus-size women are wearing to events. This helps me keep Divine Kurves relevant, stylish, and connected to the needs of our audience.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a business?
Do it scared. Waiting until you’re ready can prevent you from ever starting. Even if others offer similar products, no one is you — bring your unique vision to life. Research your business thoroughly and surround yourself with supportive people who can help you grow.

Where do you see your business in the next 5 years, and what legacy do you want to leave?
I hope Divine Kurves continues to thrive and grow as a family-run business, reaching curvy women worldwide. My goal is to leave a legacy of empowerment, showing that plus-size women can feel beautiful, stylish, and confident while flaunting their curves.
